At an airport restaurant, 2 sodas and 4 hamburgers cost $12.00. An order of 4 sodas and 2 hamburgers costs $9.00. How much does one hamburger cost?

Respuesta :

2.00 cause the pops are 1.25 × that by 4 it's 5.00 add the 4.00 for the burgers and it's 9.00

Let the cost of one soda be $x

and let the cost of one hamburger be $y

Since, 2 sodas and 4 hamburgers cost $12.00

So, [tex] (2 \times x) +( 4 \times y) = 12 [/tex]

2x+4y = 12

Dividing the whole equation by 2, we get

x+2y= 6 (equation 1)

Now, 4 sodas and 2 hamburgers costs $9.00

[tex] (4 \times x)+(2 \times y) = 9 [/tex]

4x+2y=9 (equation 2)

Substituting the value of 'x' from equation 1 in equation 2, we get

4(6-2y)+2y = 9

24-8y+2y=9

24 - 6y = 9

24 - 9 = 6y

15 = 6y

y = 2.5

So, the cost of one hamburger is $2.5
