From my own knowledge that domestic pets like cats and dogs they self-medicate that they put a monarch in a big cage. Non-medicinal plant on one side and medicinal on the other side, then next is to measure the number of eggs which the monarchs lay on each plant.
The risk of using man-made medicine the time of treating some pathogens is that pathogens they keep on evolving and a lot of developing drugs are losing their efficacy and we have to find great ways to discover drugs which can use against our diseases. Ways in which we can eat some kinds of milkweeds to help monarch survive are transmitting the parasites when laying eggs and sixty-eight percent of the eggs which are laid are medicinal

Answer:

1. From your own knowledge of animals, what are some ways that domestic pets like cats and dogs self-medicate?

From my knowledge I know that dogs self medicate and have witnessed it myself, dogs sometimes eat grass to self-medicate because they may have an upset stomach or parasite, so they eat grass as a self detox to clean out their system and vomit everything.

2. De Roode mentions a risk in using man-made medicine when treating certain pathogens. what is that risk?

The risk of using man-made medicine is that even if their is a vaccine or drugs for pathogens after time pathogens will keep evolving and the drugs lose their effect slowly, which means new and greater drugs and vaccines have to be created to prevent these diseases.

Hope this helps!!
