A doctor who becomes a specialist by meeting standards beyond those of getting a license and passing a test in the specialty area is called a Board Certified Doctor. Doctors seeking board certification in an area of specialty must successfully complete and pass an examination process which is designed to test their mastery of the knowledge and skills contained in the core competency document.
