Based on my information, this would be known to be called (theme). By understanding the theme, this would totally help the reader to to make sense of the information to which he/she is exposed mainly because sense they would know the theme, this would be able to fit (a) and (b) together for everything to make a lot more sense.
Theme helps the reader to make sense of the information to which he/she is exposed.
