The Crusades were a series of military expeditions whose goal was to
rescue the Holy from the hands of Muslims. Still some of the knights who took
part also wanted to acquire gold and other riches that can be obtained after
the victories. Others joined to acquire
new lands in the east. Some took part
because of the promise of glory, honor and adventure. Despite the number of Crusades launched, the
Holy Land was still under the control of the Muslims.
