After Latin American nations won independence, US president Monroe issued a warning to European countries. He told European countries that they should not attempt to take back the colonies that they had once owned.
This is part of the Monroe Doctrine, a policy that had as aim the opposition against European Colonialism. This policy begins in 1823. the policy stated that any attempts at conquering any American State would be seen as a manifestation of an unfriendly position towards the United States. The term Monroe Doctrine was born only in 1850.
