How were the Fenians involved in the American Civil war and what impact did this have on British North America?

So from what I got from reading some articles about this. The Fenians were involved by the us leading them in the war. There was lots of raids led by Great Britain in Canada. In Canada, the incursions divided its Catholic Irish-Canadian population, many of whom were torn between loyalty to their new home and sympathy for the aims of the Fenians.
