The Puget Sound is the body of water located along the northwest coast of Washington State. It forms an interconnected system of waterways and a basin with major connections to the Pacific Ocean. A Sound is a large ocean inlet that is larger than a Bay and wider than a Fjord. The major connection to the Pacific Ocean is called the Strait of Juan de Fuca—Admiralty Inlet. The two minor connections to the Pacific Ocean are known as Deception Pass and Swinomish Channel.
