Spanish priests and friars established missions as centers for their quest to convert Native Americans to Christianity. The missions encouraged Native Americans to live close to or within the walls of the mission. The missions had church lessons and agriculture lessons in farming as well as animal care. The missions varied in their level of success in converting Native Americans to Christianity.
