The name Greece was given to the Greeks by the Romans. Before then, the Greeks referred to themselves as Hellenes.
After the Dorian invasion, a lot of Greeks fled mainland Greece to Aegean islands and also to the western shores of Anatolia.
Decades later, the descendants of the Greeks later returned towards 750 BC to mainland Greece bringing with them diverse ideas and handiwork which they have learned over the years. This contributed in growing a lot of food which they traded off to the Egyptians and Phoenicians.
As trade surged higher, there was need for a new writing system so the Greeks adopted a 24-letter alphabet system from Phoenician traders which was characterized different sounds.
This cultural intermingling between the Greeks and their trade partners helped advance Greek cultures and introduced new ideas.
