What was the Ottoman Empire?

The Ottoman Empire was a multi-ethnic state ruled by the Osmanli dynasty located in much of Eastern Europe, North Africa, and part of the Arabian peninsula. The Ottoman Empire is culturally related to what is known today as Turkey.

The Ottoman Empire suffered a great crisis at the end of the 19th century due to the despotism and bad government of its ruler Abdul Hamid II who was characterized by wasting money from the public purse to turn the empire aesthetically into a country similar to England.

His bad government caused the rise of a nationalist youth movement that opposed his government because they did not want European influence to permeate their culture and ancestral customs.

Due to the above, Sultan Abdul Hamid II had to deal with the nationalist revolutionary movements and finally had to give in to their requests to implement the Constitution of the Ottoman Empire of 1876.
