The 15th amendment is important because it allows every American, despite the color of their skin, to vote. It allowed for freed slaves (in theory) to vote after the civil war and shape the country they lived in. Of course this was in theory, because the U.S. still allowed for Jim-Crowe laws like The Grandfather Clause to keep blacks from voting.
