Before the 20th century, Gregor Mendel's ideas were the basis for most research on heredity. Gregor Mendel's ideas includes:
- That genes come in two parts one part from the father and the other from the mother. ( The law of segregation).
- Mendel also discovered that the genes are differently sorted and that one inheritance is independent of the other. (The law of independent Assortment)
- The third is the law of dominance states that the allele that shines over the other is the dominant gene while the other allele is the recessive gene.
Gregor Mendel experimented with pea plants to arrive at the above theories in the 1860s.
Gregor Mendel is known as the father of genetics. Genetics can be defined as the study of heredity.
