Two practical ways in which the local communities could help prevent the mismanagement of public funds by municipalities. In each recommendations indicate how each action may help prevent mismanagement.​

  1. There should be public meetings held time to time in which the municipal officials should give a detailed account of how they used the budget allocated. This would ensure that the local communities know about the development taking place in the locality and how the budget is allocated. Moreover, the local community would also come to know about how much of the allocated budget has been used and what sum is remaining.
  2. There should be representative of the local community in the municipalities, who would act as a bridge between the municipality and the local community: informing the community about how the public fund is managed. The representative would also talk to the municipality about the resources and development required in the local community, so that the fund is appropriately in the required areas.

With the ways mentioned above, there would be very less scope for the municipalities to mismanage the fund.
