The skin acts as a protective barrier from:

Harmful agents;

Excessive loss of moisture and protein;

The newly formed skin have the following features:

  • Contains newly formed keratinocytes.
  • Appears pinkish and delicate
  • Melanocytes are few.
  • Do not have hair follicles

The normal patch of skin on the other hand:

  • It has adequate melanocyte cells.
  • Appears brownish (based on skin color,
  • Already contains keratinocytes.
  • Have hair follicles

The newly formed skin is formed from the basal layer of the epidermis and slowly these newly formed cells goes to the upper layers.
