The main issue was the high debt that the US had thanks to the war that had to be paid soon. The money used was almost worthless because of the high inflation. The severe economic depression couldn't wait because people might rebel, which did happen in certain places. Things that could wait was employing new legislative measures and creating treaties and alliances with neighboring countries.
