I’ve honestly never heard of using food as currency. Maybe they shouldn’t because for one, it’s edible, it can expire, and people can eat it. Secondly, it’s easily reproducible, people can dry their own peas and become rich. Lastly, aren’t dried peas way too small? They can easily be lost,.

A civilization should not use peas as its money because the world has gone past the era of trades by barter.

Trade by barter was an economic system whereby people exchanged goods with others. They exchanged goods that they had with goods that they did not have.

A nation cannot trade with dried peas now internationally with other countries. Dried peas may not be regarded as a medium of exchange for most countries. Except in a country where there is a great need for the product.
