Seafloor spreading
At divergent boundary, two tectonic plates are moving away from each other and the magma from the mantle upwells to fill the void between the two plates. As the magma cools it forms new crust
Explanation:
A mountain ridge is formed along the boundary. In addition, there is the presence of bands in the rocks that make the mountain ridge. The bands orient in different directions depending on the orientation of earth’s magnetic field at the time they were formed. These bands are formed from the fact that the iron minerals in the magma, which are highly ferromagnetic, orient with the earth's magnetic field before the magma cools into rock, permanently locking the orientation of the iron minerals.
