At the Conventional level in Kohlberg’s Moral Theory, ‘good boy-nice girl orientation’ and ‘law and order orientations’ are the two stages of moral development.  

The children need to accept and follow these orientations as a sense of morality originating from personal and societal pressure and relationships. In order to get societal approval, children place emphasis only on good behavior and tend to follow all the rules and conventions.

A child feels he/she needs to adhere to rules and conventions to be a good boy or a nice girl. Children try to understand the value of obeying law and order as well as accepting and adhering to rules and conventions are necessary for the society to function properly.

Along with the need for societal and individual approval, children fear to violate the laws due to outside force and moral development .
