The pronoun himself is reflexive because it refers back to the antecedent, Johnny. It does not emphasize Johnny. It simply explains who Johnny bought the basketball for. A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject of the sentence.
An intensive pronoun draws attention to or emphasizes a particular noun or pronoun. It usually is located directly after the noun or pronoun it emphasizes. The intensive pronoun can also be removed without creating an incomplete sentence or changing any of the known information. If we removed himself from the original sentence we would not know who Johnny bought the basketball for. This is another clue that himself is not an intensive pronoun in the sentence.
