Pacal was the Emperor of the Great Mayan city of Palenque, in the modern-day state of Chiapas, México. He ruled 68 years. When exploring the ruins of Palenque, archeologists discovered an entrance to the Temple of the Inscriptions. There, on the majestic walls of the temple, Pacal recorded his years as a ruler. Inside the temple, archeologists also found his tomb and when they opened it they found the famous jade mask of Pacal the Great, which is exhibited in the Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.
