I believe the answer is: both stress the afterlife and spiritual achievement rather than material progress
Both religion acknowledge the existence of gods. the major differences between the two religion lies on how the gods need to be worshipped. Buddhism believe that the gods would not help you to enter nirvana so they do not need constant worship while Hindhuism tend to believe otherwise.
The common aspect of the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism is both stress the afterlife and spiritual achievement rather than material progress.
