Answer: English farmers quickly adapted to the land in the new world and were able to provide food for fellow colonists.

I do know that the English from the south suffered a lot and struggled on living, so one way to overcome this would be that they would go to where it's more easy to live.  And they also did provided for the other fellow colonists who supposedly faced the same deals.
