In lines 6-7 of the The New Colossus poem written by Emma Lazarus, Lady Liberty will welcome the exiles just like a mother welcomes her children with comfort, love and support. Using her torch to light there way for them to see.
In lines 6-7 of "The New Colossus", by Emma Lazarus, the reader can infer that the light welcomes inmmigrants and exiles from European countries. Lazarus poem, commissioned to help raise money tu build the statue, ensured that the Statue of Liberty would be seen as a welcome for immigrants leaving European countries to enter the US, the "Mother of Exiles" (as the poem states.)
