What you think were the 3 most significant battles in the civil war and why.

Does NOT have to be complete sentences. I'm just brainstorming for a paper that I am going to write.

Right off of the bat, the Battle of Bull Run is one of the most significant battles mainly because it was THE first battle fought in the war. Many people thought this would be the only battle of the "war", as many thought the northern states easily had it. However, this was not the case, as the confederate states counter attacked them and was able to pull off a victory. It showed that it was going to be a touch battle on both ends.
The Battle of Gettysburg was another significant battle as it was considered a "turning point" of the Civil War. Confederate troops nearly breached the "Union line", and it put them super close to winning the entire war. However, the union capitalized their aggression and won the battle. It was significant because it was the closest the confederate states ever got to winning, and if they had won the battle, there might have been 4 countries in North America right now. The final choice I have as most significant battles is The Battle of Palmito Ranch. This was significant mainly because it was the final battle of the Civil War, and the battle that would put the Union states as victors.
Hope this helped! -rycexz

The First Battle of Lexington bolstered the considerable Southern sentiment in the Missouri River Valley area.

The Confederate's fortune reversed in the later Battle of New Madrid. The Union won and the victory marked the first time the Confederate Army lost a position on the Mississippi River in battle.

The Union ultimately won Battle of Westport and took control of Missouri. It was sometimes referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West" as it was one of the largest to be fought west of the Mississippi River.
