This typically occurs when you have a secondary hard drive in the computer and its loading as a master rather than a slave.
method 1: disconnect the secondary and reinstall vista as an upgrade to keep your data in tact.
method 2: change the boot priority in the bios.
These two methods are good but you can also copy the boormgr file from another vista machine.
You can also rebuild the bcd store which is a lengthy process but doable.
