There are many reasons why people have used art to bring awareness and/or recognition to a particular subject. One reason is that art focuses on harmony and beauty, and because of this, it is considered to be a "universal" language that can appeal to everyone. Another reason is that art can be very persuasive, as it can allow the artist to convey a complex message in a simple way. Finally, art can reach people who are iliterate or ill-informed about the subject in a much more direct way than a text would.
