Any function in the form [tex]f(x)=a*(b)^x[/tex] is known as an exponential function. And one of the important things to know about such functions is that the [tex]a[/tex] is the value of the function when [tex]x=0[/tex]. Check it out:

[tex]f(0)=5*(6)^0[/tex]

Recall that any number to the zero power is 1, so this becomes:

[tex]f(0)=5*1 \newline \newline f(0)= 5[/tex]

So, again, when [tex]x=0[/tex] we see that [tex]y=5[/tex]. (Don't forget that [tex]y[/tex] is the same thing as [tex] f(x)[/tex]!) This represents the point [tex](0,5)[/tex], which is also the y-intercept of the function!
