The exchange provides a physical location where broker/dealers can come together to trade securities. Not only does the exchange provide the physical facilities but also a place to bring together the necessary equipment and communications needed for its members to trade and communicate such trades to their clients.

The exchange also provides for corporation to have their securities trade among those firms that have an interest in them. All securities that are traded on the exchange must meet the financial requirements set by the exchange for worthiness to be appropriate for investors.

The exchange has the responsibility that all its members are in compliance with the rules set down by the SEC for all brokers, dealers and other members. The exchange must make sure that all the rules of trading are followed in order to maintain a fair and orderly market.

The New York Exchange arranges stock & bond trading for the largest and most established companies in the United States .
