British general John Burgoyne had proposed the plan to isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. The plan had about 8,000 British troops invading into New York from Canada and taking control of the Hudson River. The plan was initially successful -- the British took Fort Ticonderoga in June of 1777. But General Burgoyne overextended his access to supplies as he came further into Patriot territory, and the colonial forces were able to cut off his supply line. After a couple of difficult battles, Burgoyne's eventual surrender of his troops came with the loss at Saratoga in October, 1777.

The two Battles of Saratoga were fought in the fall of 1777 and this battle was known to be the turning point of the American Revolution. Large invasion army was led by British general John Burgoyne and he hoped to meet similar British force which was marching from New York but those forces never arrived and General Burgoyne and his troops were surrounded by American forces. Burgoyne wanted to divide New England from southern colonies and his strategy started well but after some time it slowed down due to logistical support. On September 19 British General John Burgoyne got the victory against American forces. Though, after this attack, the strength of his troop was weakened but he again decided to attack Americans who were at Bemis and this attack took place on October 7, but this time Americans were ready and they defeated troops of Burgoyne and that forced him to retreat and that was seen as big victory for Americans and it gave them hope that the can win a war.
