The monastery of Santa Maria de La Rabida is considered to be one of the most representative monuments of the Discovery of America. and its discovery is presumed to be a crucial event in History. Moreover, it constitutes as a great example of Gothic Mudejar architecture in the province of Huelva where it is located. Another important fact is that in 1490 Columbus was able to take refuge in this monastery after the Catholic Monarchs denied his petition to have an expedition into the Indies but Queen Elizabeth's confessor assisted in changing their minds by making them reconsider listening to Columbus.
