Tina should decrease the volume of her iPod if she doesn’t want to get hearing problems. Lowering the volume of Tina's iPod will help her to increase the odds that her love of loud music does not cause hearing damage.
EXPLANATION:
The sound level will double for each 3 dB. Thus, it is not recommended to hear an iPod with the sound level above 90 dB. 90 dB of the sound level will cause many hearing damages. Thus, the safe level of sound is 85 dB and lower.
Here is the list of safe sound’s scale and its duration based on OSHA:
70 dB fro 24 hours
73 dB for 12 hours
76 dB for 6 hours
79 dB for 3 hours
82 dB for 1.5 hours
85 dB for 45 minutes
88 dB for 22 minutes
91 dB for 11 minutes
94 dB for 6 minutes
97 dB for 3 minutes
100 dB for 1.5 minutes
From the data above, we know that the safe sound level for a whole day is 70 dB. If we hear sound in the higher level from 70 dB, we have to limit the time we listen to it. In the case of Tina, if she loves to listen to kinds of music in her iPod and she wants to listen to it for a whole day, she has to set the sound level is 70 dB. Yet, if she wants to hear it in the 90 dB level, she must limit her time to listen to the music for just 11 minutes for the sake of her hearing health. If she doesn’t consider the safe level of sound when she listens to the music, no wonder if later she will experience many hearing problems, including losing her hearing ability.
