Double-replacement reaction

Explanation:

A reaction in which two compounds exchange ions to form two different compounds is known as a double displacement reaction.

For example, [tex]AgNO_{3}(aq) + NaCl(aq) \rightarrow AgCl(ppt) + NaNO_{3}[/tex]

Since, two ions get exchanged in this type of reaction, that is why, it is known as double displacement reaction.
