Use the following words in a brief paragraph about slavery in the South.
a. overseer b. slave codes
c. spiritual d. Underground Railroad

Respuesta :

Slavery in the South resulted in awful conditions for enslaved African-Americans. Their rights were severely limited by slave codes. These were laws that gave slaves curfews and also prevented them from testifying in court against white citizens. Along with this, slaves were treated poorly during their time working on plantations by overseers. These overseers were in charge of making sure that slaves were working hard to produce as many crops as possible.

Despite this inhumane treatment, many slaves were spiritual and put their faith in God that one day they would be free from this treatment. Besides praying for change, other slaves tried to escape their condition using the Underground Railroad. This series of safe houses helped thousands of slaves escape to freedom in the North as well as Canada.
