The Porter family is moving from Baltimore, Maryland, to San Francisco, California. They would like to know what the difference will be in their family budget.
How would you explain cost of living to them?

(dumbed down version please)

Respuesta :

Simply put, living in California is going to be more expensive than living in Baltimore, this is because the index rate of living in  California for most of the basic necessities is higher in California than at Baltimore. For instance, the cost of renting an apartment in California is more that that of Baltimore. There are other things to consider like the income rate in California, restaurant rates, purchasing index rate, etc. Overall,  the family may be needing an extra $1000 each month in addition to their former monthly budget to survive in California.

The Porter family should know that the cost of living in San Francisco is greater than the cost of living in Baltimore.

According to the recent statistics, the cost of living in Baltimore is about 40 percent lower than in San Francisco.

Also, it should be noted the Porter Family would have to earn quite more than they do in Baltimore before they can maintain the same standard of living.

Hence, supposing Porter's family is earning $50,000 in Baltimore, they would need about $89,000 to maintain the same lifestyle they lived in Baltimore.

Therefore, in this case, it is concluded that the cost of living in San Francisco, California is greater than the cost of living in Baltimore, Maryland.
