When anyone is beginning to do resistance training, it is important to fully understand each training exercise by manner of how exactly to perform.  This is so because failure to fully understand how to perform any sort of training exercise could lead to one hurting himself or herself.  That said, even though one may know the basics of the exercise, it is important to not overdo it by beginning an exercise by doing too many repetitions at any weight.   The number to keep in mind is 12.  You should choose a weight that allows you to do 12 repetitions without completely wearing yourself out as that could end up doing more harm than good.
