Jonas compares two wireless data plans. Which equation gives the correct value of n, the number of GB, for which Plans A and B cost the same? (GB means “gigabytes of data.”)

A. 5n = 30 + 3n

B. 5n = 30(4n) + 3

C. 5n = 30 + 4n + 3

D. 5n = 30 + 3(n – 4)

Respuesta :

Wireless plan A = 5n
5n =

Wireless plan B "30%"
5n = 30

Wireless Plan B "$3 for each additional GB after the first 4"
5n = 30 + 3(n-4) is your answer

The equation gives the correct value of n, the number of GB, for which Plans A and B cost the same is $30 + (n - 4) $3 = $5n

The total cost of n gigabytes of data of wireless plan A bought can be represented with this equation = $5 x n = $5n

Total cost of n gigabytes of data of wireless plan B bought is the sum of the base fee plus the fee per gigabyte in excess of 4

This can be represented with this equation = $30 +  (n - 4) x $3

The value of n where both plans would be equal can be determined by equating the equations of Wireless plan A and B :

$30 + (n - 4) $3 = $5n
