Imagine the cliche stuff if you need to. Using your imagination. As a writer, I can do this easily, but I know there are many people who cannot. Draw out an image in your head of what this heron looks like. What does his personality say about him? Does his looks contradict or compliment his personality? Develop a character in your mind how you want him/her and then put the information into the paper. All of it is imagination.
