Earth and Water, according to Aristotle, were cold elements.
Ancient Greeks thought that all matter was composed of four elements: Water, Air, Fire, and Earth. Aristotle assigned two qualities to each element:
Water: Cold, Wet
Air: Hot, Wet
Fire: Hot, Dry
Earth: Cold, Dry
The quality that Earth and Water have in common is being Cold.
