During one performance of a local arts council's presentation of Fiddler on the Roof, the box office sold 205 tickets and collected $1003. If adult tickets sold for $7 and children's tickets sold for $3, how many of each type of ticket were sold?
I'm confused on how to solve for the answer...

Respuesta :

To answer this question, you will set up an equation to represent the total number of tickets sold.  See the attached picture (#1).

You can rewrite this equation as what c = .

Now you have how many children tickets were sold in terms of adult tickets.

You will then write an equation, using only the variable a to find how many adult tickets were sold.  See attached picture (#2).

Solve to find the number of adult tickets and then use it find the number of children's tickets sold.  See attached picture (#3).

Then substitute your answers back into the equation to check your work.  (#4 on attached picture).
