2 1/4 + 1/2 first you change 2 1/4 to an improper fraction. 4 x 2=8 +1=9 keep the denominator 9/4 and when adding to fractions you have to multiply. (9 x 2) + (1 x 4)/4 x 2= 22/8 22 ÷ 2/22 ÷ 8= 11/4 or 2 3/4 hope it helped:D
