Classification system involves the categorization of living organisms that makes their identification and study easy. In this system, the organisms are classified starting from a broad category progressively to a much narrower group based on the unique characteristics of the organisms. In common classification system, the seven ranks of classification are Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.
For example plants belong to the Kingdom -Plantae. Flowering plants come under the phylum Angiosperms. There are around 2,95,000 species of the flowering plants identified by scientists so far.
