Compound Sentence
A compound sentence is two sentences (complete ideas) put together with a comma and conjunction. In this compound sentence the first complete idea is "I watched the movie last night". The second complete idea is "I didn't like it". They are joined with a comma and the conjunction "but". A simple sentence contains only one complete idea like "I ran home". A complex sentence contains a dependent clause and an independent clause; for example, "Since the child was crying, we decided to give him a pacifier." A compound complex sentence has a dependent clause and two independent clauses.
