The correct answer is: European imperialism brought about many changes in the African continent. Europeans forced Africans to grow cash-crops. This way of growing crops benefited Europeans.
Cash crops is an agricultural crop which is grown to sell for profit.
During the introduction of cash crops in Africa, cocoa, coffee, sugar, peanuts, cotton, rubber, tea, palm oil, timber and tobacco were planted, replacing the native plants and causing a big environmental impact on Africans.
They also produced a surplus of food, which was used for export and not to satisfy the needs of the starving African people. We even have to mention the poor conditions in which these workers perform their duties in the fields, earning little salaries compared to the enormous amount of profit that the owners of the land win, and having still amost no working rights.
The production and export of these crops surely helped the countries' economies, but it did not do much for the Africans themselves and their needs. Analyzing it even further, one could say that these cash-crops even slowed down the evolution and progress of social matters for Africans (such as woking rights and hunger).
