Herodotus was the Greek historian who chronicled the events of both Persian Wars when he wrote in 'The Histories'. On the other hand, Thucydides covered only the first part of the war between Athens and its allies and Sparta and its allies.
The First Persian war started when the Greek cities in Asia Minor revolted against Persian rule. Even though some mainland Greek cities intervened, the war spread around the Eastern Mediterranean.
