America wanted to govern their newly conceived country almost the opposite of how Britain governed them. For exampled new taxes couldn't be imposed without public consent (remember no taxation without representation.) When writing the constitution the U.S wanted there to be no monarch and imposed a system of checks and balances so no government official could get too powerful.
