This type of government is characterized by the rule of a small number of people. How the people are chosen varies from place to place: Some have it based on family ties, while others use wealth or military position as a determining factor. Oligarchy--this form of government means "rule by a few" and is a government where only a few representatives runs the government.

Oligarchies are found not only in politics but also in economic rule of businesses. A few people either chosen or elected to rule make the decisions for the whole government. It creates a small-scale checks and balance system but with just a few ruling, many voices are lost in this type of government.
