Hello!
The most important chemical reaction of the alkanes is combustion.
Alkanes are organic compounds that don't have double bonds and are composed only of Carbon and Hydrogen. They don't undergo many kinds of chemical reactions but the most important one is combustion. In this reaction, alkanes are oxidized by atmospheric oxygen to form CO₂ and H₂O. This reaction is highly exothermic and is used to generate flames for cooking. Butane, commonly used in household gases, is an alkane.
Have a nice day!
