There were just north of 6,000 Israeli
fatalities in the Arab-Israeli War of 1948. Considering that the Israeli
population at the time was roughly 600,000, this makes those fatalities around 1%. To put this in
perspective, the only time the United States exceeded a 1% fatality
percentage in any war it has ever fought was during the US Civil War because both sides are counted.
