Fermentation
This is an alternative glucose breakdown pathway that can occur when normal, oxygen sufficient cellular respiration is not possible. This occur because oxygen is not around to accept the electron during the process called electron transport chain, This is consists of glycolysis with some extra reactions in the end of the process. This is a widespread process to get energy anaerobically. Some organism use inorganic molecule in the absence of oxygen as an electron acceptor.
